TAAN GIVES INPUTS ON IMPLEMENTATION OF GHT

Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has given its inputs for the development and implementation of Great Himalaya Trail.

In a meeting organized by Planning and Evaluation Division of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) at the ministry’s office in Simhadurbar on December 2, TAAN President Ramesh Prasad Dhamala and CEO Gangasagar Pant said GHT should be developed and promoted as a global brand.

The meeting was chaired by tourism secretary Suresh Man Shrestha.

The ministry has assigned the responsibility of identifying necessary components for the effective development and promotion of GHT to Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN). The ministry has asked to submit its suggestions in the next meeting.

In the program, Wouter Schkalen, Tourism Portfolio Manager of SAMARTH/NMDP, made a presentation on concepts for promotion of GHT.

GHT is one of the longest and highest trekking trails in the world. It covers the Nepal section of the Himalayas starting from Taplejung in the east to Darchula in the west. It stretches over a distance of 1,700 km.
